Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to hear an adorable story from an even more adorable long distance relationship couple!
If you’re in a long distance relationship, then you’ve definitely had at least one person try to tell you that LDRs can’t work… Well, this couple proves that person wrong! We can all agree that long distance relationships are hard… However, that doesn’t mean they can’t and won’t work. So, now it’s time to share a little story on a long distance relationship couple named Shane and Chloe!
Their story starts in the year 2015…
It was summer time and Shane was enjoying his time at camp. While at camp, he met a girl named Chloe. They didn’t really talk much, however they knew of each others existence and were friendly towards one another. 3 years later, they both enrolled to go back to that exact summer camp – not knowing that they’d see each other again! So, in 2018, they both packed their bags and headed off for the summer.
Shane lives in Athens, Georgia, and Chloe lives in Pensacola, Florida.
On the last night of camp, they were both spending time with their friends. Thankfully, they had a mutual friend who essentially brought them together! So, that night, they got to know each other, and hung out with their mutual friends. Shortly after camp ended, they started dating – even though they don’t live in the same state!
As of December of 2019, they’ve been together for 13 months. In November of 2019, something life changing happened to the happy couple…
Shane proposed and now they’re engaged!
Something I’m always curious to ask other LDR couples is what their best advice is for other people in the same situation. When asking Shane what his advice is, he said:
“Set aside certain parts of the day to talk on the phone with your partner, but don’t forget to live your life where you are as well. Don’t spend all your free time waiting for your partner to be free, and make sure that you’re able to do your own hobbies and hang out with your own friends during the times when they are not free. Communication is key in any relationship, but in an LDR it is even more important to succeeding in balancing your relationship and the other parts of your life.”
When asking Shane what makes their relationship special, he said:
“Our LDR is special because it feels very “meant to be.” That may be cliche, but there were just so many things that had to play out exactly as they did for us to even begin talking in the first place. Though we are both from very different places (small town in Georgia for me and Orlando, Florida for her), we grew up with very similar upbringings and experiences, and our personalities and interests almost completely overlap. That combined with the very low odds of us going to the same summer camp that’s hundreds of miles away from her home (it’s an even longer story lol) make it feel very much as if it was supernaturally willed for us to find each other.”
*Excuse me as I cry happy tears!*
Their biggest LDR struggle is…
The melancholy that comes with not being there with each other. Shane also said:
“Missing out on all the little moments throughout each other’s days and constantly having to be on a countdown until the next time we see each other just makes it difficult. We’ve often talked about how it feels very weird the day after we part ways again just because we’ll be going through the motions of our day only this time without our other half, and it can be just very hard in those moments.”
So, now it’s time to talk about the best part – their future plans! As I mentioned, they’re newly engaged, so there’s going to be a lot of planning to do!
Shane is currently in college, and he’s unsure of when he’s graduating, so they’ve decided that they’re going to wait to set a date for the wedding when he’s done with school. It will most likely be either summer of 2020, or winter of 2020. Shane says that 2020 is going to be their year! (Love that!)
Before their wedding, Shane is going to make the move and move down to Pensacola to be with Chloe! They will officially break the distance – woohoo!
By that time, Chloe will have one more year of undergraduate studies, and then they’re going to stay in Pensacola for her gap year.
After that, she’ll be attending medical school as she plans on becoming a surgeon. As of now, they’re unsure of where that will be! Shane has not made a career decision yet, but he’s interested in pursuing something in the education field.
Despite the distance, Shane and Chloe both consider themselves to be extremely blessed to be in the position that they’re in. They found each other – or as Shane says – ‘the one’ – before they turned 20 years old!
They’re incredibly grateful for every person, experience, and moment that led them to where they are today.
Shane said:
“We really do feel like the most blessed people in the world to be with each other, and though it can be hard sometimes when we’re separated, neither of us would trade what we have for the world.”
That was the romantic story of long distance relationship couple, Shane and Chloe!
They’re proof that love is always greater than distance. Congratulations to the happy couple on their engagement – we all wish you the best of luck!
