One of my favorite artists is Taylor Swift… Not only because I enjoy her music, but because her music is written from real life experiences. It’s so much easier to relate to songs if they’re based on true events. If you’re in a long distance relationship, then you’re going to want to relate to music by listening to some long distance relationships songs!
My music taste varies a lot depending on the mood that I’m in. For example, (and this is probably going to sound a lot sadder than anticipated), but does anyone else have a ‘sad’ playlist, or is that just me? When I’m feeling a bit down, I put on the playlist and let out my feelings! I also have a playlist called ‘big mood’ where I have songs by artists like Britney Spears, Spice Girls, etc. So, yeah, I think you got the point!
After listening to a bunch of music, I’ve found some long distance relationship songs – aka, songs that long distance relationship couples may relate to.

1. “Long Distance” by Bruno Mars
This song doesn’t need much of an explanation on why it made it onto this list. “Long Distance” by Bruno Mars is as long distance as a song can get! I’m sure you’ll be able to relate to the lyrics, as the song is talking about a bunch of the hardships that we all go through by being in LDRs. For example, some of the lyrics include:
“This long distance is killing me
I wish that you were here with me
But we’re stuck where we are
And it’s so hard, you’re so far”
2. “Jet Lag” by Simple Plan ft. Natasha Bedingfield
This song is more on the upbeat side. The music video basically features a long distance relationship couple who miss each other. There are tons of relatable lyrics, but the most relatable for me is when they say:
“You say good morning
When it’s midnight”
I’m sure if you and your partner have a large time difference, then you can definitely relate to that line, too!
3. “Half a Heart” by One Direction
If you know me, then you’d know how much I adore One Direction! They were my favorite band growing up (and honestly, they still are)! So, I just had to share some of their music! Their song “Half a Heart” is extremely beautiful. One of the most relatable lyrics they sing is:
“I’m missing half of meAnd being here without you is like I’m waking up toOnly half a blue sky
Kinda there but not quite
I’m walking around with just one shoe
I’m half a heart without you”
4. “Many the Miles” by Sara Bareilles
If you’re in a long distance relationship, then that means you live many miles away from your partner. My partner lives over 3,500 miles away, so a song like “Many the Miles” is definitely relatable! This song by Sara Bareilles is incredibly beautiful. Some of the lyrics include:

How far do I have to go to get to you

But send me the miles and I’ll be happy to follow you, love”
5. “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri
This is by far one of the most beautiful songs that I’ve ever listened to. It’s one of my all-time favorite songs! It’s full of lovely lyrics, it’s heartfelt, and just overall super romantic. Some of the best lyrics include:
“And all along I believed, I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me, I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more”
6. “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s
I grew up listening to this song! This song by the Plain White T’s is so beautiful! It’s a super popular song with lyrics relating to people in long distance relationships. One of my favorite lyrics is:
“Don’t you worry about the distance
I’m right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice, it’s my disguise
I’m by your side”
7. “Ours” by Taylor Swift
As I mentioned earlier, Taylor Swift’s songs are super relatable! If you want to see a beautiful music video, then you’ll have to watch the one for “Ours”. It’s so emotional – (yes, I cried watching it!) The music video features a couple that is long distance due to him being in the military. So, if you’re in a military LDR, this may become your favorite song! One of my favorite lyrics is:
“So don’t you worry your pretty little mind,
People throw rocks at things that shine,
And life makes love look hard,
The stakes are high,
The waters rough,
But this love is ours”
8. “Wish You Were Here” by Avril Lavigne
Avril Lavigne was one of the top artists during my childhood! By this point, basically everyone has heard of her. She has a song titled “Wish You Were Here”. It’s pretty obvious what this song is about, LOL! One of the most relatable lyrics in the song is:
“What I’d do to have you
Here, here, here
I wish you were here (i wish you were)”
9. “Here Without You” by 3 Doors Down
As the title suggests, this song is about when you’re away from your partner. This is a classic that will definitely get you in your feels. Some of the lyrics include:
“I’m here without you baby
But you’re still on my lonely mind.
I think about you baby and I dream about you all the time.
I’m here without you baby
But you’re still with me in my dreams
And tonight girl, it’s only you and me.”
10. “Counting Down the Days” by Natalie Imbruglia
Something that everyone in a long distance relationship does is count down the days till they see their partner again. So, this song by Natalie Imbruglia deals with exactly how you’re feeling! Some of the lyrics say:
“I want to travel through time
See your surprise
Hold you so tight
I’m counting down the days”
