Breakups Are Never Easy, And What's Even Harder Is Learning How To Move On. So, Here Is Some Of Our Best Advice On How To Move On!

As you may know, breakups are never an easy thing…

Unfortunately, sometimes they’re not even the hardest part. In my opinion, learning to move on from your partner is even harder than the actual breakup itself. If you’ve been with your partner for a long period of time, you kinda have a routine. You might sleep over their house a few nights a week, or in some cases, you might’ve even moved in together. With this example, you get so used to sleeping next to your partner. However, when you break up, that obviously won’t be the case anymore. With long distance relationships, it’s sometimes harder. You would visit your partner, or they would visit you, and it’s a whole different experience to a normal relationship.

You go to talking everyday to someone you thought was the love of your life, to sometimes never talking to them again. This could definitely take a toll on your mental health, so we’re here to help you feel better.

Here is some advice on how to move on.

Get out of the house

The worst thing you can do after a breakup is stay inside and cry. It’s important to keep yourself busy and to get out of the house. By staying inside doing nothing, you’ll be forced to just think about your ex. However, when you’re out doing some sort of activity, or even just going on a walk with your dog, your mind will be busy, and you won’t be sat alone thinking about the breakup. Plus, if you take your dog for a walk, you’ll make them happy – it’s really just a win-win!

Hang out with friends and family

This point can go hand-in-hand with the one above. When you get out of the house, you don’t need to be alone! Call up your friends, or go spend time with your family. Your friends and family love you, and of course, they don’t want to see you upset. By spending time with them, you’re keeping yourself busy, having fun, and you’re surrounding yourself with loved ones. It’s guaranteed to make you feel better!

Think about what happened

Alright, I know I’ve been saying not to think about the breakup so much, but it’s also important to not pretend like it didn’t happen. However, don’t think about it all day long and for months on end. When I say to think about what happened, I mean it’s okay to figure out what went wrong, and come to terms with it. Breakups happen – and I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. So, you never know, the breakup might be for the best.

Talk to someone

Talking to someone about how you feel is extremely helpful. Now, this doesn’t mean you have to pay to go see a therapist. This could be as simple as texting a friend about how you feel, hearing what they have to say, or even just talking to a sibling or parent. It’s not healthy to bottle up everything. You’re allowed to talk about how you feel. Venting is definitely a great way to feel better, and you can get some great advice from whoever you choose to talk to.

Focus on yourself

Now that you’re single, you don’t need to jump into a new relationship. Take some to focus on yourself. Learn a new hobby and become independent. You don’t need someone else to make you happy! Focus on what makes you happiest, and remind yourself that everything is going to be okay.

Take care of yourself

This is a bit similar to focusing on yourself, but this part is more fun. When you look good, you FEEL good… Trust me! Do you feel more confident when you’re lying in bed, messy hair, streaks of makeup from crying, and not showering for a few days, OR, do you feel better when you put on a nice outfit, apply some makeup, and get all clean? Obviously the answer is the second one! So, take care of yourself. Do some online shopping, try a new makeup look, take a long bath, put on a face mask, or whatever! Just do something to take care of yourself, and eventually you’ll start to feel better!

Allow yourself to feel the way you do

No one can tell you to just ‘get over it’. You are 100% allowed to feel however you’re feeling. After a breakup, you might feel mad, sad, furious, or even relieved. So, don’t just bottle up your feelings. If you need to cry, let yourself cry. If you feel really happy about it, then that’s okay, too. Just come to terms with how you’re feeling and allow yourself to feel that way.

Seek closure

No matter how easy or bad the breakup was, you might need some closure. This isn’t always the case, but it’s definitely helpful in moving on. Tell your ex you need some closure in order to move on from them. It could be the two of you just talking about what went wrong, you asking them for an apology, or you even apologizing yourself. All cases are different.

Do everything you love

What is your favorite thing to do? Do you enjoy going to the beach, hanging out with your dog, going shopping, painting, singing, or even eating tons of junk food while watching a movie? Whatever it is, DO IT! By doing what you love, you are making yourself happy. By being happy, you’re moving on. So, always continue doing what you love.

Realize that there are more people out there

I know, I know… Some of you hate the saying “there are plenty of fish in the sea”, because in some cases, you might not want the other fish out there! You might still be in love with your ex, and want to make things work. However, in other cases, that quote might mean a lot to you. There are over 7 billion people in the world, so, don’t think that you’ll never find love again because I can assure you that you will.

So, that was some advice on how to move on.

Hopefully these tips can help you. Please remember that breakups aren’t the end of the world. As the last point said, there really are plenty of fish in the sea… Stay positive because you never know who else will come into your life. I hope you can move on happily, and stress-free.
